The Breakfast Creek Hotel in April 2001

The Breakfast Creek Hotel would have been a very popular watering hole during WW2 for both American and Aussie troops. It is located near the Albion Park Race track which was the only race track that was allowed to operate in Brisbane during WW2. Both Doomben Racecourse and Ascot Racecourse (now Eagle Farm Racecourse) were turned into large military camps.

Two brothels were located at the rear of the Breakfast Creek Hotel during WW2. They were in the location of today's hotel car park. There was community uproar during the war when many American soldiers would line up outside the brothels right opposite the road from the local school. The brothels were eventually closed down. They had apparently been in that location since the 1920's. The prostitutes would drink in the bar at the hotel and they were apparently greeted each evening by a resident parrot located on the hotel's veranda, with the words "Here come the whores! Here come the whores!"
