MACHINIST MATE 2/C HERBERT WAYNE
GRIZZARD
CREW MEMBER OF PT 32,
ONE OF
THE PT BOATS WHICH RESCUED
GENERAL DOUGLAS MacARTHUR
Machinist Mate 2/C Herbert Wayne Grizzard
One of the crew members of PT-32 of PT Ron 3 was Herbert Wayne Grizzard, Machinist Mate 2/C. After the USS PERMIT picked up the crew of PT-32, they were taken back to either Corregidor or Manila.
Grizzard was then assigned to the USS Pigeon, and after that boat was sunk in early May, he was captured by the Japanese, and died in Hoten POW Camp in Manchuria on Dec. 7., 1944, when a stray American bomb fell into the camp during a bombing raid. He is now buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Herbert Grizzard was awarded the Silver Star.
