HEADQUARTERS 14TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT
COMMAND
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
The 14th Anti-aircraft Command was established on 15 November 1943 with its headquarters in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. All seacoast artillery and antiaircraft troops in the Southwest Pacific Area were assigned to the 14th AA Command. The general responsibilities of the Command toward its subordinate units included:-
general administrative supervision over all assigned organisations;
a responsibility for the supply of technical materiel to units;
a responsibility for the technical training of units,
and their preparation for combat.
A centralised training centre was established at Townsville in north Queensland possibly at Camp McClung. In early Spring of 1944 the training centre at Townsville was closed and a new training centre was established at Finschhafen in New Guinea.
