United States Operational Training Unit No. 2 (Provisional-Fighter) also known as USOTU No. 2 (Prov-F) was activated at Williamtown, NSW on 1 July 1942 under General Orders No. 24 dated 1 July 1942 by the order of Lieutenant General, George H. Brett, Headquarters Allied Air Forces, Southwest Pacific Area.
This fighter training unit was set up at Williamtown following the high rate of accidents suffered due to the inexperience of Pursuit Pilots supplied ex USA with very low hours operating frontline aircraft. USOTU NO. 2 (Prov-F) eventually moved up to Townsville by September 1942 after 5th AAF was formed. By 1944 the Unit had moved to PNG (Maple).
