CRASH OF A WARHAWK
AT PORT PIRIE, SA
IN FEBRUARY 1942
Lieutenant Earl Kingsley of the 49th Pursuit Group was seconded into a provisional squadron to fly a Warhawk to Perth. Kinglsey had just arrived on the ship USAAT Coolidge in Melbourne on 1 February 1942.
Kingsley made a forced landing at Port Pirie in South Australia with engine trouble. He returned to Canberra and was then inducted in the 8th Squadron of the 49th Pursuit Group under the command of Captain Robert Van Auken.
