REMOTE RECEIVING STATION RAAF
MADJURA ROAD, CANBERRA
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
Air Board Agenda No. 3458/1941 proposed the erection of:-
"... a W/T Remote Receiving Station power house complete with electrical generating equipment, fuel storage tank, etc., and masts and aerial system at R.A.A.F. Station, Canberra, A.C.T."
"This station is to be situated in an area free from all sources of electrical noise which would cause interference to the reception of weak signals from aircraft and distant stations."
.....
"An area of approximately 45 acres required for the site is Commonwealth land leased to a private lessee, and action will be taken to withdraw the land from the existing lease, compensation for the surrender of which is not expected to exceed £300."
"The estimated cost is as follows:-
Site (45 acres) ... £300
Buildings, fuel storage £2,075 (By Department of the Interior)
tank and roads, paths,
etc.Equipment, aerial systems £5,125
TOTAL £7,5600
The above proposal was approved and D.W.B. Requisition No. 190/41-42 for £7,200 was issued for the buildings and equipment. Subsequently, the Receiving Room was severely damaged by a cyclonic storm when almost complete. D.W.B. Requisition 975/41-42 was issued for £455 for restoration, thus making the total amount of £7,655 available for buildings and services and equipment.

The Commonwealth Disposals Commission called tenders which closed at 2 p.m. on Friday 9 May 1947 for the purchase and removal of two earth filled Splinter-Proof Revetments at RAAF W/T Transmitting Station Gungahlin at Yass Road, Canberra. They were constructed of 6" by 1" hardwood. The tender also called for the purchase and removal of two earth filled Splinter-Proof Revetments at the RAAF Remote Receiving Station at Madjura Road, Canberra.
