MOUNT BRECKAN, VICTOR HARBOR, SA
No. 4 Initial Training School 4 ITS RAAF was located at Mount Breckan, at Victor Harbor in South Australia from 4 November 1940 until 5 December 1944. Approximately 5,595 RAAF and WAAAF personnel graduated from Mount Breckan.
4 ITS held an RAAF Unit Ball in the Gymnasium building at their base at Mount Breckan on the evening of 6 July 1941. Hundreds of lights illuminated the grounds, streamers in Air Force colours festooned the building and model aircraft hung from the ceiling at Mount Breckan. A statue of an airman in full flying kit, hundreds of balloons and bunting and palms added to the brilliant scene. About 700 people attended the Unit Ball.

Mount Breckan, Victor Harbor
Mount Breckan was originally the holiday home for Alexander Hay and his family. It comprised 22 rooms including seven bedrooms. There was a great hall some 11 metres by 16 metres in size. There was a 25 metre tower above the main entrance. It was destroyed by fire in 1909. The property was bought by W.F. Connell and he rebuilt the house to become the Mount Breckan Club, an expensive guest house. It comprised 38 rooms and had its own golf course. Mount Breckan was purchased by the Commonwealth Government in 1940 to establish 4 ITS.
