VOLUNTEER AIR OBSERVERS CORPS, MELBOURNE
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
No. 1 Volunteer Air Observers Corps was formed on Monday 9 November 1942 under Commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant C.W. Hyland (864), with Pilot Officer B.A. Clark (32630) as Adjutant. Improved quarters, comprising the Commanding Officer's and Adjutant's room, two Orderly Rooms, Store and Guard Rooms were provided at the National Herbarium, in the Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, Victoria.
Tthe following table shows the number and distribution of Observation Posts, Reporting Posts and Air Reporting Officers in each Zone Control area in January 1945:-
