CRASH OF A VOUGHT KINGFISHER
APPROX. 113 MILES EAST OF LEARMONTH, WA
ON 17 MAY 1943
Whilst on a routine Patrol Flight on 17 May 1943, USN Vought OS2U-2 Kingfisher, BU No. 3078, of VS-61 Squadron US Navy based at NOB Perth, crashed at 22.05S 115.85E, which plots as being approximately 113 miles East of Learmonth Airfield in Western Australia.
The Kingfisher was piloted by AP2 Albert Arthur Ronning (3857567) with crew member ACRM Floyd Anthony Simon (3758235). The two crew members died in this crash and were buried in the USAF Cemetery at Rookwood in Sydney, New South Wales.
