CRASH OF P-40E KITTYHAWK
NEAR PEARCE AIRFIELD, WA
ON 15 JULY 1942

On 15 July 1942, P-40E Kittyhawk A29-50 of 77 Squadron RAAF, piloted by Sergeant Mervyn James Baker (402903) lost formation with the other aircraft and entered a cloud. The pilot lost control of the aircraft at 7,000 feet and baled out at approximately 3,000 feet. Sergeant Baker was uninjured and was posted to 25 Squadron RAAF the following month.
