TWO KITTYHAWKS COLLIDED
WHILST TAXIING AT MILDURA AIRFIELD, VIC
ON 1 APRIL 1945
P-40 Kittyhawks A29-161 piloted by Flight Sergeant Lionel Victor Rogers (59650) and A29-155 piloted by Flying Officer Geoffrey Abbott Cutler (413746) of 2 Operational Training Unit RAAF collided whilst taxiing at Mildura Airfield, Victoria causing superficial damage which was repaired at the Unit.
"During pre-dawn take-offs, the A.C.P. gave permission for A29-161 to proceed onto the strip for the take-off. On doing so, he collided with A29-155 which was on the strip without permission. The vigilance of the pilot of A29-161 could not have been 100%, although the disposition of the aircraft at the time of the accident made sighting very difficult. The A.C.P. had not noticed A29-155 taxy onto the strip, as his attention was fixed on the previous take-off and the pilot of A29-155 had neither radio-ed or signalled permission to be there."
