CRASH LANDING OF A WIRRAWAY
AT MILDURA AIRFIELD, VIC
ON 20 MARCH 1945
On 20 March 1945, Flying Officer J.A.C. McDonald (430622) flying solo in Wirraway A20-495 belly landed the aircraft at Mildura Airfield in Victoria. The Fire extinguisher in the rear cockpit had become detached, jamming the undercarriage lever, thus preventing the pilot from being able to lower the undercarriage. The aircraft was repaired at 2OTU.
Wirraway A20-495 was involved in another wheels up belly landing at Mildura on 26 November 1945.
