CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
BESIDE MILDURA AIRFIELD, VIC
ON 12 MARCH 1945

 

At about 0712 hours on 12 March 1945, Flight Sergeant L. V. Rogers (59650) of 2 Operational Training Unit RAAF made a forced landing in P-40 Kittyhawk A29-181 just outside the boundary of Mildura Arfield.

The engine stopped when it ran our of fuel. The aircraft had insufficient height for the engine to pick up again when a new fuel tank was selected and the aircraft crashed into a tree whilst making an approach to Mildura Airfield. An adverse entry was made in Sgt Rogers' Log Book. The aircraft was a complete writeoff.
