CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
AT MILDURA AIRFIELD, VIC
ON 8 JANUARY 1945
Sergeant John Monico Beilby (47278) of 2 Operational Training Unit RAAF, landed P-40 Kittyhawk A29-200 with its brakes on after bouncing the aircraft at Milidura Airfield, Victoria on 8 January 1945. The airscrew touched the ground for 8 - 10 revolutions and the starboard undercarriage collapsed. The aircraft ground looped into the rough, damaging the undercarriage leg, airscrew and starboard mainplane.
Sgt. Beilby was removed from the course.
