CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
AT MILDURA AIRFIELD, VIC
ON 3 JANUARY 1945
P-40 Kittyhawk A29-194 piloted by Sergeant Alan Malcolm Campbell (431552) of 2 Operational Training Unit RAAF, crashed and ground looped at Milidura Airfield, Victoria on 3 January 1945. Sgt. Campbell undershot the strip, whilst making a approach to land, opened his throttle and flew up to the strip, where he closed the throttle and allowed the aircraft to sink onto the ground at high speed, straining the undercarriage links. At the end of the landing run, the port leg collapsed.
Sgt. Campbell was removed from the course.
