P-40 KITTYHAWK CRASHED
ON FORCED LANDING
AT MILDURA AIRFIELD
ON 14 FEBRUARY 1945
On 14 February 1945, P-40 Kittyhawk A29-199 (#42-10427) piloted by Warrant Officer Mervyn Thomas Vaughan (30201) attempted a forced landing at Mildura Airfield, Victoria after suffering engine problems. The pilot overshot the runway and forced the aircraft on to the ground at high speed. The aircraft was damaged extensively and W/O Vaughan was tragically killed in the resulting crash.
