P-38 LIGHTNING HITS TOW TARGET
CABLE
IN THE AMBERLEY AIRFIELD AREA
ON 27 NOVEMBER 1942
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
On the afternoon of 27 November 1942, Lt. Haney of the 17th Fighter Squadron, 5th Air Force, USAAF, while on a gunnery mission in his P-38 Lightning out of Amberley Airfield, hit the tow target cable between the cockpit gondola and the left engine tearing a hole in the wing.
On same day,
Lt Harbour in another P-38 Lightning
hit a cable possibly the tow target cable
