GROUND ACCIDENT
WITH A B-26 MARAUDER
AT IRON RANGE AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 10 OCTOBER 1942

On 10 October 1942, B-26 Marauder #40-1532 "Sourpuss" suffered a crumpled tail when ground crew pushed it off a taxiway at Iron Range Airfield in far north Queensland to make way for a B-24 Liberator and it rolled back into a pole supporting camouflage netting. In March 1943, mechanics mated the tail and rear fuselage of #40-1403, "Bunagoon" to the front half of "Sourpuss" to create an operational B-26 Marauder.
