GROUND ACCIDENT WITH A B-26 MARAUDER
AT ANTIL PLAINS AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 18 JULY 1942

On 18 July 1942, pilot 1st Lt. Richard W. Richardson taxied B-26 Marauder #40-1491 of the 33rd Bomb Squadron of the 22nd Bomb Group, USAAF at Antil Plains Airfield just south of Townsville to see if the field had dried out enough to support the weight of B-26s after heavy rains the previous month.

The wheels of the B-26 bogged down and the nose wheel strut broke when he attempted to free the B-26. The aircraft was subsequently repaired. It later became known as "Major Monsoon" and later became "Vice Limited".
