FORCED LANDING OF A B-17 FLYING FORTRESS
IN A PADDOCK NW OF KARUMBA, QLD
ON 9 NOVEMBER 1942

No. 4 Volunteer Air Observer Corps report on this forced landing as follows:-

9/11/42
Cairns report B17 E came down in a paddock NW of Karumba. Action taken by Cairns and party left for scene.

Note:- There was no followup entry in the 4VAOC Operations Record Book on the above incident, so there is a chance it may have been false information. The 19th Bomb Group had left Australia by November 1942. That leaves possibly a B-17 from the 43rd Bomb Group.

Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
