ON 5 OCTOBER 1945
P-51K-10-NT Mustang IVa A68-549 (#44-12479) of 86 Squadron piloted by Flight Sergeant T. McCrohan was damaged by a bird strike at 3,000 feet above the Bohle River Airfield near Townsville in north Queensland on 5 October 1945. The aircraft was issued to No. 13 ARD RAAF on 17 October 1945 for conversion to components.
Note:- The book "Diary of World War II North Queensland" incorrectly states that this aircraft was in 85 Squadron RAAF rather than 86 Squadron. 85 Squadron was based in Western Australia.
