FORCED LANDING OF A P-40
KITTYHAWK
AT COOKTOWN CIVILIAN AIRFIELD, QLD
ON 29 SEPTEMBER 1945
P-40N-35 Kittyhawk A29-1044 (#44-7875) AM-M, made a forced landing at Cooktown Civilian Airfield in far north Queensland at about 1335hrs on 29 September 1945 after take-off for a ferry flight to Garbutt then Breddan. The pilot had seen white smoke emitting from exhaust stack.
The aircraft was held by 27 OBU at Cooktown for repairs.
