CRASH LANDING OF A GLIDER
BETWEEN CAPE UPSTART AND ABBOTT BAY, QLD
ON 19 AUGUST 1943
Major MacDonald advised the Controller at 3 Fighter Sector Headquarters in Townsville that a USAAF Glider had crash landed between Cape Upstart and Abbott Bay in north Queensland on 19 August 1943. 3FSHQ was involved in co-ordinating rescue activities. The glider crew were uninjured.
Another USAAF Glider has also crashed near Mackay on the same day killing two crew members.
