CRASH LANDING OF AN A-20 HAVOC
AT CAIRNS AIRFIELD
ON 4 OCTOBER 1944
A-20 Havoc #389 of the 3rd Bomb Group piloted by 1st Lieutenant G.H. Gossom (079957) made a crash landing at Cairns Airfield in north Queensland at 0708Z hours on 4 October 1944 when there was a failure in the undercarriage hydraulic system. The other crew member was Corporal L.J. Votta (13046420). The landing was an excellent one and no injuries were sustained by any crew member. The A-20 had earlier departed Hollandia at 2330Z hours on 3 October 1944.
