CRASH OF A SPITFIRE
AT DARWIN, NT
ON 5 AUGUST 1943
At 0615 hours on 5 August 1943, Spitfire AR-563, A58-6, of 452 Squadron RAAF, piloted by Flying Officer John Henry Eric Bisley, DFC, (402720) dropped out of a practise formation that he was leading at 8,000 feet with engine trouble. This was later found to be due to a glycol leak.
F/O Bisley, made a forced landing in a small clearing west of Middle Arm near Darwin and struck an ant hill. The pilot was slightly uninjured.
Can anyone help me with more information on this crash?
