CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
BETWEEN BATCHELOR AND LIVINGSTONE AIRFIELDS, NT
ON 20 DECEMBER 1942

At 2140hrs on 20 December 1942, Flight Lieutenant George Shave, of 77 Squadron RAAF bailed out of his P-40 Kittyhawk, A29-112 (#41-36098), after the airscrew and bearing were damaged, resulting in an in-flight fire between Batchelor airfield and Livingstone Airfield in the Northern Territory. The pilot was slightly injured. He wrenched his left shoulder badly and had slight abrasions to his left leg.
