CRASH OF A P-40E KITTYHAWK
NEAR THE WEST MAITLAND SHOWGROUNDS, NSW
ON 22 FEBRUARY 1942
On 22 February 1942, a USAAF P-40E Kittyhawk, Serial No. #41-24779, piloted by 2nd Lt. Warren D. Jackson, made an emergency forced landing near the West Maitland Showgrounds in New South Wales. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair. 2nd Lt Jackson received a severe fracture of the upper jaw and was taken in a critical condition to the West Maitland Hospital.
