ACROSS SHOALHAVEN RIVER, NSW
ON 12 JUNE 1942
On 12 June 1942 reports were received at RAAF Station Nowra from the Town Clerk, that a USAAF Aircraft had damaged high voltage conductors crossing the Shoalhaven River. This report was investigated by the Station Commander, Wing Commander John Margrave Lerew, DFC. The pilot was Lieutenant Hayes USAAF who was able to successfully land his damaged aircraft at Mascot Airfield, in Sydney.
