FORCED LANDING OF TWO P-40
KITTYHAWKS
NEAR BRAIDWOOD, NSW
ON 7 MARCH 1942
On 7 March 1942, 2nd Lieutenant Richard H. Dennis and 2nd Lieutenant Monroe Eisenberg both escaped injury after forced landing crashes near Braidwood in News South Wales whilst on a flight from Laverton Airfield near Melbourne to the 8th Fighter Squadron at Canberra Airfield in the Australian Capital Territory. Both P-40's were driven off course by dense clouds of smoke from large forest fires and almost ran out of fuel.
2nd Lt. Dennis landed on a steep field and braked into a clump of small trees. 2nd Lt. Eisenberg crash landed in a field and skidded through a fence.
