CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
ON A HILLSIDE OVERLOOKING
BANKSTOWN AIRFIELD, NSW
ON 1 MARCH 1942

 

On 1 March 1942, 2nd Lieutenant Austin J. Holly of the 7th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group, suffered a severe injury to his left shoulder and head lacerations when his P-40 Kittyhawk crashed on a hillside overlooking Bankstown Airfield. His aircraft was a complete write-off.
