FORCED LANDING OF A P-40
KITTYHAWK
2 MILES WEST OF BANKSTOWN AIRFIELD, NSW
ON 23 FEBRUARY 1942
On 23 February 1942, 2nd Lieutenant Frederick C. O'Riley of the 7th Fighter Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group, made a forced landing two miles west of Bankstown Airfield near Sydney in New South Wales and ripped up 50 feet of fence and crashed into the kitchen of a civilian house. The P-40 was damaged beyond repair. 2nd Lt. O'Riley only received a lip injury.
