CRASH OF A WIRRAWAY
AT COOTAMUNDRA AIRFIELD, NSW
ON 28 AUGUST 1942
At approximately 11:30 hours on 28 August 1942, CA-9 Wirraway A20-465, attached to the School of Army Co-operation held off too high on landing at Cootamundra Airfield causing the starboard wing to strike the ground. The wing tip and aileron were damaged. The crew were as follows:-
P/O Keith Jospeh Ranson (411267)
LAC Boaz Arthur Thorpe (21897)
The aircraft was repaired and remained in continual service with the School of Army Co-operation (SAC) until 1945.
