FORCED LANDING OF A BEAUFORT
6 MILES SOUTH OF FORBES, NSW
ON 25 AUGUST 1943

On 25 August 1943, DAP Beaufort Mk. VI, A9-97, of No 5 Operational Training Unit RAAF, suffered an engine failure and made a wheels up forced landing approximately 6 miles south of Forbes in New South Wales. The pilot was F/O Louis D'Hamilton Destree (407667) and the crew member was Sgt. William Robert Gibson (418098). Both were uninjured.

This aircraft was originally delivered to the RAAF in June 1942. It was involved in another earlier accident - a failed take off which saw it run through a boundary fence at Barirnsdale in Victoria on 16 October 1942. All crew members survived that earlier incident. It was eventually struck off charge on 8 February 1949 and converted to an instructional air frame.
