CRASH OF AN AVRO ANSON
AT MAITLAND EMERGENCY LANDING GROUND, NSW
ON 7 JULY 1942
At 2230 hours on 7 July 1942, Avro Anson A.W.659 was involved in a major crash at Maitland Emergency Landing Ground when attempting a precautionary landing. The aircraft had struck overhead power lines on the boundary of the airfield and then hit a private car injuring three civilians.
The three crew were uninjured as follows:-
Pilot Officer Maurice Bevan Mitchell (405522) (pilot)
Sgt. Milton Malloney Baker (412895)
Sgt. James Penrose Proudfoot (405422)
