Hello Peter Dunn:
I arrived in Townsville Oct/Nov 1943 after flying C47 # 42100476 via Ohio ,California, Hawaii, Christmas Island, Fiji Island to Brisbane. My co-pilot was Dale D. Madison, crew chief was Norman L. Trowbridge, & radio operator was Claud E. Fears. My plane remained in Brisbane & our crew was flown up to Townsville where we landed at Garbutt Field. I was assigned to the 6th Sqdn., 374th Troop Carrier Group. I flew out of Townsville to New Guinea until we were transferred to Nadzab, New Guinea sometime in 1944.
I would like to see Townsville again before I "cash in". I am 80 yrs. old but in pretty good shape.
I remember John Wayne when he stayed at the hotel in Townsville.
My old 374th Group Commander, Colonel Imparato is still living down in Florida, talked with him on telephone about 10 months ago.
I am William E. Thompson, everyone in the sqdn & group called me"Tommy."
Retired from USAF 1963 as Lt/Col.
Hope to hear from you,
Tommy
Can anyone help me with more information?
