hline.gif (2424 bytes)

HMAS Bungaree laid mines off the north Queensland coast in 1943. This included mining various entrances through the Great Barrier Reef.

Unfortunately, the Minesweeper HMAS Warrnambool (J202) struck one of these mines off North Cockburn Reef on 13 September 1947 and sunk with the loss of 4 lives.
