CAMP CASINO
NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES MILITARY DETENTION CAMP
CASINO, NSW, DURING WWII

The Canberra Times dated 14 September 1946 reported as follows:-

CASINO OBJECTS TO N.E.I. CAMP

--------------------------

CASINO, Friday

Fresh moves by Casino residents to secure the removal from the district of the Dutch Army camp where more than 500 Indonesians are interned is likely to follow yesterday's disturbances in the prison compound when one Javanese was shot dead and two others were wounded.

In May there was an agitation against the continuance of the camp and new efforts to secure its transfer are probable as residents fear that should the prisoners in the camp rush their guards, the district may become a danger spot.

It is revealed that hundreds of machine gun rounds were fired in yesterday's disturbance and that the man killed had 13 bullet wounds in his body.
