COCONUT GROVE DANCE HALL,
THE STRAND, TOWNSVILLE, QLD
DURING WW2
The Coconut Grove Dance Hall was built out over the beach, on The Strand, near the Seaview Hotel. It was used as a dance venue for "Other Ranks" during WW2. It was no doubt named after the famous fashionable Coconut Grove night club in the middle of Boston's theatrical district which burnt down on about the 28 November 1942, killing about 200 people including the movie star Buck Jones.
