Camp Redbank was located within one of the many bends of the Brisbane River. It was conveniently located near the Redbank Railway Station. At over approximately 300 acres it was one of the larger Australian Army Camps in Queensland.
Amongst the units based at Camp Redbank were the 2/4th Australian General Hospital, the 7th Australian General Hospital, the 2nd Australian Women’s Hospital, and an AWAS Camp, the First Australian Army Weapon Training School, and the Redbank Army Returned Stores Depot RSD was located just south of the main camp area.

The Camp Commandant was located in the centre of the camp at the modern day intersection of General MacArthur Place and Smith Street. Camp Redbank was broken up into 4 main areas:- West Camp North, East Camp North, West Camp South, and East Camp South.
There was a rifle range on the southern side of the Brisbane to Ipswich highway which can be seen in the bottom right of the above 1946 aerial photo of the camp area.
Depot Headquarters of 2 Australian Returned Stores Depot moved to Redbank in January 1944 with the Controlled Stores Section, Clothing Section and General Section whilst the Textile Section, MT Section, Tyre Section and Tent Section remained at Gaythorne in Brisbane. 3 Australian Returned Stores Depot was raised at Redbank in July 1944 as a deployable depot with Depot Headquarters and a Returned Stores Section. 3 Returned Stores Depot moved to Torokina in October 1944. 4 Australian Returned Store s Depot was raised at Redbank in October 1944 as a deployable depot with seven officers and 193 Enlisted Men formed into Deport HQs, three Returned Stores Sections and two Stores Incrs. The depot was then organised as HQ and four Detachments which could work with a field ordnance depot and one detachment moved to train at Tolga in far north Queensland in December 1944.
