JAPANESE BOMBING RAID
AT LONG AIRFIELD, NT
ON 15 SEPTEMBER 1943
At 00.25 am on 15 September 1943, Japanese aircraft dropped bombs at Long airfield in the Northern Territory. A weapons carrier attached to 14 Mobile Works Squadron (1MWS) RAAF was slightly damaged during the bombing raid. The Officer's Mess was totally destroyed by a direct hit from an anti-personnel bomb. An unexploded bomb was later found at the southern end of the taxiway.
