I received the following E-Mail from James Caplis ( on 13 June 1997:-

From: "James Caplis" <>

Subject: Seeking info on Caplis' family

My name is James Michael Caplis. Currently living in Lansing, Michigan, I am looking for any information on my family ancestry in Ireland. I have minimal information to provide you. However, this is what I know at this time.

My grandfather, Dennis J. Caplis came to the US in 1912 from Ireland. He came over on a boat shortly after the Lusitania disaster.

He was born approximately 1892 in County Cork or Tipperary. I've not understood if that is a city in a county or two different cities or what.

I believe he had a brother named Michael and I think his father's name was Michael as well.

The name of Clogheen seems to be associated with his whereabouts.

My apologies for the lack of solid information, but I've not been working on this very long and just recently connected to the Internet.

Please respond with any tidbits you can provide. Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

My E-mail address is

James Caplis
