WAS THERE A QUEENS PARK BUNKER,
GEORGE ST., BRISBANE,
DURING WW2?

hline.gif (2424 bytes)

I was told that a WW2 Bunker was uncovered under Queens Park in the centre of Brisbane Central Business District a number of years ago when Queens Park in George Street was excavated for the underground car park for the new casino built in the adjacent Treasury Building.

Can anyone confirm whether this was the case?

I am also aware that the site of Queens Park was originally occupied St. John's Pro-Cathedral 1854 - 1904. And there was a Rectory and Church Institute Building built in 1897 which later became the CIB Building which was demolished in the 1960's. Perhaps the basements of one of these buildings was exposed and mistaken for a WW2 bunker?

Can anyone help me with more information?
