This book will take you on a journey to retrace military aviation in Townsville from its inception in 1940 to the present day. This book is not a story as such, more a collection of events which occurred in Townsville.

This book unlocks the past, discovering the squadrons that were formed in Townsville especially during World War II, the airfields that existed within the city and the American involvement in the city during World War Two.

The book outlines the chequered past of RAAF Townsville. From a very busy airfield in the 1940s to the Lincoln era, the Neptune replacement, Caribou and Iroquois helicopters.

A changing of the guard with the transferring of helicopter aircraft to the Army, and the establishment of 5th Aviation Regiment on the Base. The Base's command and control has undergone major changes over the years with the latest change in 2010, No. 27 Squadron City of Townsville Squadron now fulfilling the role of command and control of the Base.
