Cemetery Pacific Veterans by the Friends of Balmoral Cemetery Inc. In July 2006 the Friends of Balmoral Cemetery (FOBC) began the journey that has culminated in this fascinating insight into our local Pacific Campaign heroes, and those people from the districts of Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthorne, Norman Park, Morningside, Cannon Hill and surrounds who were our heroes on the the home front. This book will stir the memories of older generations, provide a valuable research tool for students, and be enjoyed by all. This book tells the story of many who fought in the Pacific theatre of the Second World War and made the ultimate sacrifice. It tell of the regiments they formed and the battle in which they fought. Here, in this wonderful book, they are remembered and honoured, with great care and detail, by the Friends of Balmoral Cemetery. This book also captures life in Brisbane during the Second World War: the presence of the American soldiers, the air-raid shelters, the anti-aircraft guns, the makeshift hospitals and the inspiring spirit, tenacity and dedication of the women on the home front. |
