ARMY ANTI-AIRCRAFT RADAR UNITS
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
The Australian Government purchased 86 anti-aircraft radar units from Canada in 1943.
They comprised the following two types of radar units:-
AA Number 3 Mark 1 (APF)
AA Number 4 Mark 1
In June 1944, sufficient Canadian radar technical personnel were assembled at Ottawa to move to the Radar Wing of the Australian School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in New South Wales, on the east coast of Australia where they trained Australian Army personnel at the LHQ E & ME School at Ingleburn, near Liverpool, NSW on the use of the above radar units. They also assisted with the ongoing maintenance of the new radar equipment.
