117 AUSTRALIAN
GENERAL HOSPITAL (117 AGH),
TOOWOOMBA, QLD
DURING WW2
The Australian Army requisitioned Downlands College in Toowoomba and established the Medical Division for its 117th Australian General Hospital. Glennie Anglican Girls' School in Toowoomba was requisitioned for the Surgical Division. It was then known as the Glennie Memorial School.
Downlands College and Glennie Anglican Girls' School were both vacated in 1944.
Alison McGovern is researching a book on a woman who served as a nurse with the First Orthopaedic Hospital which was stationed at Glennie Anglican Girls School, Toowoomba during WW2. The First Orthopaedic Hospital was part of the 117th Australian General Hospital. Alison is trying to confirm the spelling of the commanding officers name, a Colonel Colhoun? The 1st Orthopaedic Hospital had previously been at Frankston in Victoria.
