CRASH OF A P-40 KITTYHAWK
BETWEEN MERAUKE AND HORN ISLAND

RAAF P-40M Kittyhawk, A29-327 (#43-5660), left Merauke for a trip to Horn Island on 8 September 1943. It was never heard from again. Stewart Wilson's book "The Spitfire, Mustang & Kittyhawk in Australian Service" states that it was missing on operations near Horn Island. This aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in March 1943.
