4 JULY 1942
CRASH OF HUDSON, A16-193
IN HORN ISLAND AREA
Lockheed Hudson
RAAF Hudson, A16-193 left Horn Island on 4 July 1942 headed for Salamaua. It failed to return and no further news was heard of this aircraft. There were also no post war results of searches in New Guinea.
The book "Catalina Squadrons - First and Furthest" by Jack Riddell, describes a 12 hour daylight search flight by a Catalina piloted by Dick Atkinson on 15 July 1942 looking for a missing Lockheed aircraft. This may have been a search for Lockheed Hudson A16-193.
