LOSS OF LANCASTER ED 711
460 SQUADRON RAAF
Lancaster ED 711/UV-U of 460 Squadron RAAF crashed at 01.10 am on 17April 1943 at Heukopf, north west of Stuttgart on a raid to Pilsen. It crashed on a hill in the forest, about 4.5kms from Stuttgart.
Gary Johnson's uncle Flt Lt Edward "Eddie" Arthur Hudson (404506), DFC and Bar, MID, completed his second tour with 460 Squadron. Eddie flew Lancaster ED711 on two operations prior to the Pilsen raid (which he also took part in and is mentioned in the book "A Shaky Do" and Ron Friend’s memoirs), before completing the last 12 operations of his second tour in his new aircraft ED421 which was later lost with Richard Munro’s father on board. Flight Lieutenant Eddie Hudson later went on to fly Lancaster “G” for George to Australia.
