287TH SIGNAL COMPANY
2ND ENGINEER AMPHIBIAN BRIGADE
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WW2
The 287th Signal Company of the 2nd Engineer Amphibian Brigade, left San Francisco on 18 February 1943, accompanied by the 592nd Engineer Regiment, and the 3498th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company.
They arrived in Brisbane and moved to Rockhampton by train, possibly on 22 February 1943. They moved with the 542nd Engineer Amphibian Regiment.
On 14 June 1943, the 287th Signal Company moved to Cairns by train accompanied by:-
- Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade
- Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 262nd Medical Battalion
- Company "B" 262nd Medical Battalion
- 592nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment
The 287th Signal Company left Cairns by ship on 14 August 1943, in company with the 162nd Ordnance Company headed for Oro Bay in New Guinea.
